Buying your website: Step-by-step instructions
You’re not committing to anything when you play on this page, so have fun checking out the different names you can give to your site. Those names are called “domain names.” Usually they consist of a name + a file extension. In our case “StChristopherEpiscopal” is the name, and “.org” is the file extension.
For the screens shown in these instructions, the buyer has ordered a custom file extension (“.marketing”). If you want one of those, you pay a surcharge. Fun fact: now if you want a website you don’t need to use a boring .com or .org file extension. You have 145 more choices, including .institute, .recipes, and .futbol. See "the latest new domains" for more information. BillingIf you’re buying your site through St. Christopher’s

Believe it or not, if this is your first website, the process of ordering it is one of the most complicated aspects of getting online. Here’s a step-by-step description of how to order your website through St. Christopher’s. We appreciate your support—please visit us any Sunday at 9 a.m. so we can tell you so in person The congregation of St. Christopher Episcopal Church
Crown Point, Indiana Start by looking for the perfect name. Type the domain name you might want in the box and hit the “search” button. When it finishes the search, iPage will tell you whether that domain name is available or not. In this example, “KatharineHadow.com” is not available. “KatharineHadow.marketing” is, so iPage automatically selects it. If you want a bare-bones website and you don’t mind people seeing your name and address when they research your site, uncheck the “Add Domain Privacy” box. Then click “Checkout” in the lower right corner. Your "Confirm Selections" optionsOn the next page, iPage automatically checks the “Advanced Site Protection and Performance Accelerator” and “Automate your site backup” options. Please choose what’s appropriate for you.
• If you’re nervous about being hacked, use the site protector. Among other things, site protection is important if you’re building an online store and you need to safeguard financial information. • Automated site backup might be useful if you have a complicated site. Most of the people St. Christopher’s works with have websites that are only a few pages, so backing up the info on their sites isn’t critical. If the site owners have to replace a few pages it’s not a big deal. Choose the options you need, then click “continue.” |
Depending on how you answer the questions on the previous page, iPage may offer you some optional extras. You can also add them on later if you decide you want them.
